Welcome!
Welcome to this unit on financial literacy! This unit is here to educate high school students on financial topics which they will be using heavily in the years to come. Did you know that only seventeen states in the country require students to take a personal finance course? Even then the students are only learning about the topic, not necessarily how to use it. In the past when discussing how to teach this topic, four techniques were decided upon which are the most helpful to the students. These techniques are: Teaching students to know where to look for information, experiential learning, increase in math, and “just-in-time” education. This final technique referring to teaching students content which they will need in the immediate future. Teaching High School students about property taxes and having a mortgage is not very helpful for them at that stage of life.
This unit is created with those four techniques in mind. While I may not be covering everything usually covered in a financial literacy course, I provide the need to knows for the years ahead, as well as links to websites where students can learn more. It's about not giving them everything and making them responsible for their own learning.
Below you will find listed the titles of each unit which are linked to that unit's main page.
